Our Beliefs

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and Darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the Darkness.

And God called the light "day", and the Darkness he called "night".  And
the evening and the morning were the first day.

- Genesis 1:1 - 1:5

The universe as we understand it is compromised of both Dark and light sides, as illustrated in the above Bible passage. This difference can be as easy to spot as the difference between black and white, or as blurry as the differences between the known and the unknown.  Unfortunately - as is also illustrated in the above passage - many people view the light as wholly positive ("good"), while the Dark is viewed as negative and reviled rather than understood and venerated.

We at Sith Ministries find this idea repugnant.  It is not difficult to see, however, exactly why this negativity has been ingrained in our collective psyche for ages: early in our development as human animals, we learned to fear the Dark of night because we could not see dangers contained within it.  Our trepidation grew and grew into a poetic but very negative correlation between the idea of Darkness and things negative.  Though we drove back the Darkness with our discovery of fire, over time it still became synonymous with evil, ignorance, obscurity and destruction.

Just as we disagree with the idea of vilifying something as natural as the Darkness that surrounds us, we likewise do not believe that it is in the best interest of Man to ignore the Darkness within ourselves: our naturally occuring "negative" feelings and passionate emotions.  On the contrary - we revere these things.  They make us what we are and should not be ignored.

Many more formal religions go to the extreme of promoting the denial of these aspects of the human condition, going against the very nature of our humanity in an attempt at driving back the Darkness once again.  We believe that this is as unholy as fearing the night simply because we do not have the eyes to see within it.  Though these emotions and passions are often misunderstood, they can be understood and are the source of our growth as spiritual beings.  Our emotions and passions, how we deal with them and what we do with them, all play a great part in making us who we are, and we should not deny or be ashamed of them. Rather than fearing, ignoring or outright suppressing them, they should be embraced - used to empower us and guide us through life.

Embracing this truth, the truth of Darkness in its entirety - a force that has for millenia been reviled and misunderstood - is the fundamental building block of our beliefs.

Many people seem to be naturally drawn to a Darker aesthetic.  Some of them simply enjoy the novelty of it, the cliche or the fashion.  Others are intrigued by the mystique of the Darkness, the mystery and the idea of hidden knowledge.  Still others understand it and revere it.

Beyond them, there are true disciples who have been called onto the Darkness.

They are us.

And so, our motto:
